Picked up my old bridesmaid dress at the dry cleaning/alterations place on base...skirt shortened, seam mended, and cleaned and pressed. The ladies who work there were a bit shocked that I had so much of the skirt cut off. It was ankle-length before. But I think it looks much better, and I can wear it for more occasions because it's far less formal now.

Now I'm ready for the captain's dinner!

In other news, I screwed up. I signed up on vault.com the other day and posted my resume and a brief little blurb about me (which was more creative than professional, and in which I made it clear that I am a WRITER for hire above all else)...apparently, it got me noticed, because some company with a pretentious name tried to contact me. It looked like a law firm or something. But the message ended up in my junk mail folder and I only noticed it right after I pressed the delete key, in that brief second before it disappeared from my screen and from my life for good. Damn. And I signed into vault.com and there is no record of the message I was sent.

*sigh*

Oh well. There will be other jobs. For all I know, it was a recruiting agency. And I'll be damned if I can even remember the name of the company now, or whether it was even in Oklahoma City (although I was pretty clear that I'm only looking for employment in the OKC/Norman area).

Note to self: carefully look at all bulk mail messages before hitting delete key!

On the house hunting front - I found two houses that had serious potential, except for some major issues. House #1 sits on 5 acres of land. I don't know about you, but I can't see any possible reason for needing that much land unless we plan to have sheep and/or horses. House #2 has an in-ground swimming pool. We don't want to deal with maintenance on an in-ground pool, or the extra costs it would entail. Not to mention, there is a tiny strip of grass for a backyard, which is not good since we plan to have a dog (and the dog would be the only creature in the house with any real interest in the pool, if she is a typical Labrador Retriever). There is one house I liked with a GORGEOUS covered deck that has built-in benches around the perimeter of it...the dining room (and this is fixable, at least) is painted PEPTO BISMOL PINK. I kid thee not. So if your dinner doesn't give you indigestion, the walls certainly will (or will at least remind you of indigestion, so you always remember to have some Pepto Bismol on hand).

Lance and I are going to a birthday barbecue tonight for my friend Teri, so I had to go out today in search of a present for her. There is a bookstore/gift shop down the street from here that I've never been to, so I walked over there today. Apparently, they sell used books and gifts...some of the stuff like vases and things had clearly been used before. I found a couple of brand new candles - cinnamon and vanilla scented - and got those for her. Candles are always a sure bet.

Anyway, I have more writing to do about the Frisian Islands (woooo...exciting!), so I guess I better get to it. Actually, I would much rather look at cruise stuff. Lance thinks we're going to be in Oslo two weeks from today, and I could swear that the first full day on the ship is a day at sea. But perhaps he's right.

Thank you, and I feel good in it, which I suppose is the most important thing. ;)
