Ooooh pretty!
Aug. 7th, 2007 08:24 pmSeveral months ago, Lance and I went to a furniture/home decorating store in Landstuhl called European Country Living. We had seen a dining table on display at a bazaar at Ramstein last September, and it was from this store. It's a gorgeous table with slate inlays, but the table was HUGE. It could easily sit 8-10 people. And the chairs weren't included in the price (which was around 2000 euros). Lance and I argued (and besides, the floor sample had a chipped slate, so I was worried about that too), and we ultimately decided against buying the table.
So we still need a new dining set. I hate the one we have now. Lance brought it into our marriage, and I think it once belonged to his ex-girlfriend. That's one reason to get rid of it, because it's her taste, for one thing. And it's just godawfully ugly and scratched up and hideous looking (I have a table cloth over it, but I hate table cloths except for at picnics). Plus it's a very odd oblong shape, and only 4 people can sit at the table, which is fun when we have guests (we can squeeze in a 5th, if need be, but it requires bringing down an office chair).
Anyway, browsing through furniture online, I found this.
Very similar to what we saw at the European furniture store. It doesn't have the iron scrollwork at the bottom, but I'm okay with that. One less thing on which to stub my toe. And it comes with 4 chairs (we can order additional). And the slate is prettier, because the tiles are smaller and multi-colored (and easier to replace if one gets cracked or chipped). The other table had just two large gray slabs.
Too bad it's free shipping and tax free RIGHT NOW. If we were already living in the States, I would've ordered this already.
But at least I can think about whether we want to spend this kind of money. We were willing to spend more than this before, but honestly, we don't use our dining table very often. Maybe that's because I hate it. But we usually eat in front of the television. Nasty habit, I know. But I think having a dog will put an end to that, anyway.
And besides, Lance REALLY likes this table. And we generally don't agree on home furnishings or decor.

Apropos of nothing, my equine friend across the street is trying in vain to get my attention. He keeps whinnying very loudly and looking at my front door. Normally, this type of behavior results in me magically appearing with carrots or some other scrumptious treat, but I have no appropriate horse snacks at the moment and I'm already in my pajamas.
AHAHAHA. Sorry, buddy. I know you're trying to impress your girlfriend, who hasn't seen this trick yet.
Lance is making the voice of the horse..."Dammit woman! Bring me carrots! We are not amused! Bring me carrots!"
Funnier still, the horse stopped doing it and went over to another part of the pasture to eat grass. However, he still had one eye on the house. As soon as I stood in the window, he walked back over to the corner of the pasture that is closest to the house and looked up at me expectantly.
