Just finished A Thousand Splendid Suns.

Wow...just wow.

I am too stunned to put together a coherent thought on this book.

It's been a long time since I finished a book that just so completely and utterly took my breath away.

I can't wait to read it since I absolutely loved the Kite Runner. I wish it would hurry and come out in paperback!

I guess that's one good thing about the BookMark...I already have it in paperback. It's been available here in trade paperback for awhile now.

If I didn't want to keep my copy so desperately, I would offer to send it to you.

I wasn't sure this would be quite as good as The Kite Runner. Second novels sometimes aren't as strong as the first. But this is just amazing in every possible way. I am still reeling from it...I haven't been able to stop thinking about it all day.

Just keep in mind if you read the reviews and book discussions (as some of them claim that the book is too depressing and brutal) that some of the reviewers obviously haven't educated themselves on what life was like for women under the Taliban.

Oooh...so sorry for them that the book wasn't happy fun time. Yes, it's disturbing. It's graphic. It's violent. It's devastating. But that, for me, gave it the dose of reality that every work of fiction needs.

Just don't read it if you're having a rough week. I'll now have to temper it with something very light-hearted.
