Just a Thought...
Oct. 16th, 2007 10:56 amHaving visited Hitler's Eagle's Nest recently, I found this article interesting...
So you took an artifact from the Eagle's Nest after the war, and now you want to sell it. Shouldn't it...uh...go back to the place from whence it came? I mean, shouldn't they get first crack at it before it goes to auction?
Now that the Eagle's Nest is a tourist attraction, it would only be fitting for the globe to be displayed there again, particularly since they have so few items from the time that Hitler lived there, on account of it being looted after the war.
I wonder if the Bavarian government may try to buy it back.

Date: 2007-10-17 05:46 am (UTC)I can't say that it was a highlight of my time here in Germany...not by a long shot. The photo gallery inside focuses more on the workers who built it, since it was an incredible feat of engineering and construction back then. And there are supposedly fantastic views from there, but since it was cloudy, we couldn't see anything.
I would've found it more interesting if there had actually been something to see. Instead, we stood in Eva Braun's receiving room, trying to imagine what it might've looked like.
I think I would've been much more affected by visiting a concentration camp. I'm sorry that we never had the chance to go.
