The first time I saw this commercial was sometime last week. I laughed hysterically. Any Medieval/Renaissance Lit. geek probably would.

And then it came on again last night, and I cackled and cackled, and Lance was so puzzled, because he had no idea what was so funny. I had to explain to him why it was funny to me. And while I give props to Snickers for this ad, I do think that it's not for everyone.

King Henry VIII (sitting in the passenger seat), wrote the song "Greensleeves," which they are singing in the commercial. That's not generally common knowledge, which is why the commercial could be considered a failure.

But because I was a scholar of the history of that period and of the literature, and I knew that Henry VIII was the attributed author of that song, I find the humor in it.

I am not trying to come off sounding like a snob, and I hope I don't. I realize that most people probably don't get this commercial. And that's why Lance was so puzzled that I found it hilarious.
