Feb. 29th, 2008 02:48 pmToday has been amazing. The temperature now is in the lower 60's, and it's the first time in ages that I've been able to go out in a light jacket. I very nearly wore capri pants today, and if it were just a few degrees warmer, I would turn off the heat and open some windows.
It's just beautiful. For all the people who warned me about how much Seattle weather sucks...well, I'm laughing at you. Seriously. I know this is probably unusual, and the weather is typically like what I was used to in Germany, but I'm going to enjoy this while I can.
So...in the spirit of getting out for fresh air, I got in my car (and uncovered the moon roof, although I left it closed) and drove to downtown Kent to visit the library. It was my first time there. I was floored. FLOORED, people! It's HUGE! (As in airy and open...I think it was pretty average in terms of book selection.) I'm sure the Seattle library downtown is much, much larger, but for a suburban library, this one is pretty darn awesome. I checked out a cookbook (Robin Miller's Quick Fix Meals, which I had on my amazon wishlist) and a couple of career books...whether they will help me or not remains to be seen. I have to put holds on a couple of other books about copywriting so I can understand what the business is about and how to break into it. For now, I got a book on the magazine publishing industry and one that suggests jobs for Liberal Arts majors - probably more geared toward recent college grads. But perhaps I can glean some insight from it.
I also picked up a job application while I was there and got myself registered in their system, so I shouldn't run into any more problems using their website.
Anyway, my visit to the library was brief (it was ridiculously crowded, but I understand that it's like that almost constantly), and since I was downtown anyway, I decided to drive through the historic district. Lance and I are only somewhat familiar with it, having walked to the city government buildings when we were here in October. But I went down First Avenue and Gowe St., which boast a bunch of quaint shops and cute little cafes in old buildings.
I need to check out Wild Wheat Bakery, Cafe & Restaurant when I get the chance. That place looks amazing (and is only a stone's throw from Panera, so why did we go to a chain when this place is probably even better?).
Anyway, after my little detour, I made my way back up to East Hill, where I went to Payless and got my new athletic shoes (and some socks, since they were half off). Then I stopped in the grocery to pick up stuff to make pizza for tonight...got myself a small salad at the salad bar, and picked up a box of Pillsbury mint chocolate brownies. I promised Lance brownies since I made him paint the last 2 weekends.
So now I'm home, with books, and it's just starting to cloud up, and the wind is picking up. Perhaps some rain is coming in? Maybe it's time to do some baking and then I can read some of the free alternative papers I picked up at the library. Oh, and fill out the job application. And maybe do some more job searching online. I thought I would have heard from the temp agency by now, because he seemed pretty intent on setting up some interviews for me next week, but so far, nothing.
