Continuing Education

prosodicJust in the past couple days, we've received booklets from both the City of Kent and Green River Community College for their spring/summer classes and activities programs. Looking through them both, there are some really interesting things.
Lance wants to take Ebay sales courses, since he has some ideas for starting up his own Ebay business (and he is encouraging me to start up my own online bookstore through Ebay as well...an idea that intrigues me, I must admit).
I'm interested in taking arts classes...there is also an Italian cooking course, but it's only for one night, and the dishes they are doing are fairly easy. There are also photography courses, specialized writing courses (such as grant writing, writing for magazines and travel writing). I was amused to see a "Planning a German Vacation" course, which I could teach very easily (and it boggles the mind that people would pay for this when all they have to do is go to the library and do their own research...which is true of a lot of these classes, actually).
The City of Kent has softball leagues, and Lance loves to play softball, so I know he's really itching to do that.
Of course, there are fees for all these courses...some are more, some are less. It makes me pretty selective about which ones I'm going to sign up for. Right now, I'm more interested in signing up for classes that have the possibility of broadening my career potential, rather than doing something just for fun.
In other news, I'm trying to figure out what I'm going to do on Easter. I'll be alone. Not that Easter is a huge holiday for me or anything...it was big when I was a kid, and now it doesn't have much significance beyond cooking a nice breakfast and a nice dinner. But I still hate the fact that I'll be going it alone. I may just have to come up with a creative way to spend the day...maybe getting out and doing something really fun. And having some chocolate too, of course.

Date: 2008-03-02 07:49 pm (UTC)I don't think I could teach a class on travel writing. I don't have enough years of experience and I've mostly written for websites, which doesn't get nearly as much respect as writing for print publications. I could definitely do a vacation planning course though.
