Munchy Von Munchausen
May. 31st, 2008 09:44 pmI think Reece now responds better to "Munchy," which is what Lance started calling her a week and a half ago. I shorten it to "Munch" or call her "Munchkin."
Anyway, she had a taste of sweet freedom today.
Some idiot came to the front door (when Lance answered, the man said, "you must be the king of the castle"...WTF?) and I had Reece at the backdoor, drying off her paws, which were caked with mud.
Suddenly, she slipped out of my arms and went flying out the front door. I yelled a warning to Lance, but not in time. She was out the door and gone.
I ran outside, right past the idiot (someone who then turned to Lance and commented, "she must not like dark meat"...again, WTF?...he was dark skinned, if that had anything to do with it), and fortunately, Reece was cozying up to some of this guy's compadres, who were harrassing my neighbors next door. So they were petting her, I called her, and she came running back to me. I picked her up and carried her back into the house, and we slammed the door on all those idiots and whatever crap they were selling.
(Another of them just came to the door not 10 minutes ago, and he yelled hello through the window, making me think it was our next door neighbor in need of something, and then when I answered, he said, "you must be the queen of the castle." Everyone, altogether now...W.T.F?)
It took awhile for my heart to start beating again after that. Any number of horrible things could've happened that moment she slipped out the door, and I am so thankful that she loves people so much and wants to meet everybody. It saved her from running out into the street.
Earlier today, we went to Petsmart, where she got her nails clipped (and they tied a little red bandana around her neck, which she hated, but which made everyone go "awwwwwww" as we walked through the store). I took it off when we got home and she used it as a chew toy for awhile. We picked up some dog food and a few other things (including a frisbee, which she took to immediately). Everywhere we go with Reece, people fall madly in love with her. We are registering her for puppy training, and the trainer for her class met her today and just melted into a puddle of goo. He loves her and he can't wait to train her.
This morning, I was sitting on the couch watching TV and I heard a farting noise. I looked over and Reece had lifted her leg in the air and was letting one rip. I almost fell over laughing. It was freaking hilarious. Lance was in the office, so he missed the whole thing.
I should mention that we were asked to write a "Happy Endings" story and provide photos for the website of the rescue organization where we adopted Reece.
Anyway, some recent photos...and video!
Not the most flattering photo of me, but this is how we snuggled together for a nap on the couch last weekend.
Reece with her jaunty Petsmart bandana (notice eye rolling)
Napping on the couch
Here are a couple short videos of Reece moving her doggie bed. These are roughly a minute each.
