First day of summer...first day of school
Jun. 21st, 2008 09:23 amYesterday was absolutely gorgeous. Sunny...mid-80's. I've been desperately needing a day like this for quite some time.
Work was a bit slow yesterday. We had been discussing ways to celebrate the summer solstice, but my suggestion to visit Stonehenge was turned down. Instead we had a fake bonfire (flames made out of cardboard) and had to jump over the fire for good luck. I suggested we make s'mores, and everyone laughed. Okay then...cardboard s'mores?
Anyway, I think I set up a book club at work, where we'll get together for Happy Hour one day a month after work to discuss a book. There seems to be some interest.
I got off work an hour early yesterday to pick up my car. Hooray! It's done. The car wasn't ready until 5:30, so I stopped at Papa Murphys to pick up a pizza and some cheesy bread, stopped at Home Depot to pick up some pruning shears, and headed home to drop off those items and change, because I was overdressed for the weather.
Then I hopped back in the rental car, stopped to top off the tank, and dropped it off at the body shop, where I picked up my car. I did an inspection around it and it looks good.
Back home...Lance had just taken the pizza out of the oven. We had dinner and then had to get Munchy ready for school. I gathered up her vet records and we headed off to Petsmart.
Got there a little early, and Borders was a few doors down, so Lance stayed in the car with Reece while I ran in to get the Cisco book he wanted. He's trying to get certified as a Cisco Network Associate. I had a 25% off coupon for a book and I'm good on reading material for awhile, so I used it to get this book for him. It's part of his birthday present. I still need to figure out what else I'm going to get him. Anyway, Lance knows about the book. He had to tell me the title and author and everything so I was sure to get the right book. I got the only copy they had, so I was satisfied with that.
That done, we went to Petsmart. The class was a little over an hour, and the only other big dog in the class is an Akita. The rest of pocket-sized dogs. Reece was pretty well-behaved. She desperately wanted to play with this Miniature Schnauzer - Jack Russell mix named Jelly, but we had a tight hold on her leash, so she growled a lot in frustration. But the instructor used her in a demonstration on cuddle and massage, which he said is good to do every night, and Reece loved it.
We also learned clicker training, which Reece is responding very well to. She's smart and learns quickly, so she already knows that if she hears the clicker, it means she's getting a treat. Also, the instructor gave me some Bitter Yuck to spread on my hands and arms (we use Bitter Apple at home, but he swears Bitter Yuck is better) and Reece didn't bite me during the entire class. Of course, the Bitter Yuck doesn't come off easily either, and ended up all over me...my face and everything. I got some on my lips when I scratched the corner of my mouth. It really is nasty tasting.
Anyway, after class, we stopped at DQ on the way home because I wanted to get some ice cream (and I needed something to offset the Bitter Yuck taste on my lips). And when we got home, we found that my brother had called 3 times. So I called him, thinking there was some dire emergency. There wasn't...he just wanted to chitchat.
So we were on the phone for over an hour. Then I read for a bit - Doris Lessing's The Good Terrorist - and then Reece and I were off to bed.
Today is a busy day. I need to prune the front gardens. I have a hair appointment this afternoon. I am doing laundry. The carpet needs vacuuming. Munchy needs a bath and then I need to scrub the bathtub. Lance and I need to prep the living room for painting next week and we need to go to Walmart to pick up the paint. Lots to do...not enough time.
And I still need to go somewhere to get things for the guest room to make it presentable. My brother and his family are coming in about 5 weeks. Not much time.

Date: 2008-06-22 12:56 am (UTC)As it is, I couldn't finish everything I had planned for today. I got 4-5 hours sleep last night because of the dog and I completely ran out of steam. I barely have the energy right now to make spaghetti.
