In other news, company picnic was today. Reece made lots of new human and doggie friends, and got her feet wet in the lake without being forced into the water. Not too bad. Progress is being made in terms of getting her to overcome her fear of water, and we now feel completely comfortable in letting her off-leash in designated areas.
I had a nice time. I kind of expected the picnic to be somewhat boring, but there was a nice variety of food, it was a great park, and Sondra read a children's book to me in one of the Swiss dialects of German, which I found extremely entertaining (but only because the dialect varies so much from High-German as to be almost an entirely different language). Also entertaining - the giant rat that kept coming out from underneath the blackberry bushes right behind our picnic spot. It caught me off guard. The last place I would expect to see giant rats is at a park on Mercer Island.
Went to the farmers' market this morning. Got 2 peaches (kind of sour...bleh), 2 tomatoes (very good, and homegrown Washington tomatoes seem a rare thing), and 3 party dip mixes. Reece accompanied me, and wasn't on her best behavior, but she was in a new and interesting environment, so I can't really fault her for that. She got lots of attention from the people at the market - both visitors and vendors.
Got some work done out in the garden today. Weeded and pruned the shrubs in front. Things look much better.
Lance is currently working on the yard...cleaning up the Reece's Pieces (as he calls them) and then he'll mow the lawn. Rain and cooler temps move in tomorrow.
I'm pretty sleepy. And so is Reece. But despite that, we have to get her bath worked in sometime this evening. She's already a week overdue and she is starting to stink from the lake water.
