It's Friday!! And I'm full of random.
Aug. 29th, 2008 06:23 amIt's a casual day!! (And I'm wearing my Ohio State hoodie today because our first game of the season is tomorrow.) And I work half a day!
Lance only has to go to a meeting for 2 hours this morning, but he basically has the whole day off.
After I get home, we'll go do our grocery shopping. I'm still trying to pull together a menu for my parents' visit. I have the dinners all figured out. I'm freaking out about dessert. Why? I don't know. Brownies are always my standby, but maybe I'm just tired of brownies. I'm thinking about apple crisp. All I know is, I have too many dessert recipes, and no ideas. I was thinking candy crunch pie (like a chocolate mousse pie with crushed toffee on top), but probably too rich.
One night, we're having surf & turf. Well, Rob and I are having grilled shrimp with our steak. Mom and Lance won't. I'm not even sure Mom will have steak...she might want a hot dog. With that, we're having seasoned steak fries and grilled tomatoes. Another night, pork tenderloin (which I'll grill the same time as the steaks and save for another night). Yet another night, apricot chicken from the crockpot. And if needed, a Stouffer's lasagna.
I need to restock my wine. Yes, my family...we love the grape. And beer. For Lance and Rob.
And I still need to remember that we need a week's worth of food after this. For just Lance and myself. Though I suspect we'll be feasting on leftovers some nights.
I just finished a book last night...won't be released until October. It's great getting to read a book before anyone else does. It's called Caravaggio's Angel by Ruth Brandon...an art mystery. I'm not as much into mysteries now as I used to be (just ask me about my voracious appetite for Nancy Drew when I was young), but I still like fiction about art. I really liked this one. The plot is actually pretty complex, so I need a day or so to think about my review before I write it.
So...this weekend - I'll be spending it cleaning mostly. Getting ready for my folks to come. I'm so excited...5 more days!
I work only 2 days next week. Then I'll have a 5 day weekend. It's not officially 5 days yet...I'm only approved for 4. But since our dishwasher pretty much exploded (yeah, it looks like it's bad enough that we'll have to replace it, but our carpet has now been damaged), I need to be home on Monday the 8th for the repair guy to come out and look (and have requested a floating holiday). In the meantime, we are washing dishes by hand. Especially not fun when you have guests.
By the way, this post by one of my LJ friends gave me the best laugh I've had in days. Bravo, Danny! (And since the post is public, I hope you don't mind me linking it.)
