I linked here because getfuzzyfeed wouldn't let me comment to your statement about army bases. Then I laughed to see you talking about ohio. I lived at Schinnen (in Puth, actually) for four years and loved it unequivocally. Of course, my family was never much for on-base living, so the minimal thing was cool. We moved from there to Ohio, which I hated in comparison, but have stayed in for 11 years.
I'm sure you don't care at all, but I thought it was funny. I'd really like to see all that again (thanks for bringing it all back)
Actually, I think that's cool. It's a small world! I love living in Europe (although we live on the German side, and I think the Dutch people in this area are much nicer), but I just think Schinnen is a crappy base. Things have changed a lot since you were there.
We're leaving here in December, but I've posted plenty (mostly FO posts) about Schinnen and traveling and stuff. Three years ago, I worked at the Bookmark. It was an awful job. And they've added a coffee shop to it, so I'm especially glad I quit when I did. ;)
If the bookmark is the same bookstore we ha, I'm shocked. That place was so cramped and dingy I can't believe they could squeeze a coffee place into it. Mostly what I remember of the base is the library (it had a poster of "peace" in many languages; I was amused that several of them were "Fred" or something silly like that), the church (for years if people asked what denomination I was, I'd say, "Idunno, but not Catholic because they got the other cross put on the wall between services"), and the playground (the swings went super high, so you could fling yourself off them and really feel like you were flying). Oh! and the bowling alley, because that was the place for the kids to gather and eat pizza. It was brand new, then.
ah, helloo

Date: 2007-05-11 04:10 am (UTC)Yeah...we're returning stateside. The only way I would be willing to do another overseas assignment is if we went to England.
